This orchid tree is the most delicate of all the Bauhinias ...Bauhinia hookeri is very dwarf ...including small leaves with beautiful flowers

Tough, drought tolerant, so low water needs is a big advantage.  This fine bloomer is native to the dryer areas of Australia

Small, height will be in the area of 6-7 feet max, so this tree/shrub is excellent for places close to your home or anywhere planting spaces are limited

You can even keep your Bauhinia hookeri in a pot indefinitely, like on a pool deck or wherever you like the accent of a rare flowering orchid tree

Leaves are seriously cute.  Small, delicate grey-green pairs which contrast so well with the coal black bark of the maturing wood   ...hence the common name "Mountain Ebony"

Bonsai treatment is an option ...easy with this plant

Yet another option is to let your Bauhinia hookeri grow into any shrub form you like

Of course, you will especially love the clean white flowers accented with brilliant red stamens

Flowers are seen in spring and summer

This orchid tree works well in zone 10 or warm zone 9.  Like all Bauhinia spp., it is deciduous

After winter leaves drop off, the blooming starts showing off 5-petal flowers nearly 3 inches across + the very cool & prominent red stamens

Offered here only once before, Bauhinia hookeri is a very rarely seen true orchid tree (Bauhinia spp.)  Live seedling plants are on hand for the serious collector
