Of the many wonderful Bauhinia trees species, probably the most popular is this one, the Purple Orchid Tree, Bauhinia purpurea

Flowers are seen for much of the year which is nice.  Most often deciduous in winter, flowers are intense starting in spring, all summer and all fall in zones 10 and 9

Not fussy for care, plant in any well drained sandy type soil, fertilize normally and enjoy the view

Purple Orchid Tree is a medium tree to 25-30 feet so planting as a shade tree is fine idea ...but they're pretty cute growing up too
